Rogers named the Londoner for Dave Clark of the Dave Clark Five, and the 1967 catalog sold it as the Dave Clark Londoner, with his line "I like it like that" in the copy. It was a four-piece for the beat-group sound, with a 20-inch bass, 12 and 13-inch toms on a Swiv-O-Matic dual holder, a 16-inch floor tom and a PowerTone snare, all on Holiday drums. Rogers drums sold in Britain in that era were built by Ajax under license. The name outlived the move to Fullerton. The 1970 Londoner used PowerTone drums, and the 1973–74 Londoner V, which Rogers called its most popular setup for basic rock, went to a 22-inch bass and a Dyna-Sonic snare. By 1976 the Londoner Five, Six and Seven had five-ply hardwood shells, MemriLoc hardware and the square Big R badge. So a Londoner can be an Ohio kit or a late Fullerton one, and the badge and tom holder tell you which. Buy one whose drums share a badge style and whose holder fits that era.

How to date one
The catalogs split it cleanly. Holiday drums with the regular Ohio script badge fit the 1967 Dave Clark version, PowerTone drums with the flatter Fullerton script fit about 1970–1975, and MemriLoc hardware with the square Big R badge means 1976 or later. Vintage Drum Guide notes some 1975 drums wear both the last script logo and the new Big R badge.
What to check before you buy
The dual tom holder or its MemriLoc parts often go missing, and bass drums pick up extra holes from later mounts. Since the name ran for a decade, drums from different Londoner years get sold together as one kit.
01Badge: Look at the badge on every drum in the photos. Script logos fit the Ohio and early Fullerton years, the square Big R fits 1976 on, and all the drums should match.
02Tom holder: Check the dual tom holder in the photos. A Swiv-O-Matic holder fits the 1960s and early 1970s kits, and MemriLoc fits the 1976–77 Londoner Five, Six and Seven.
03Bass drum holes: Look over the bass drum in the photos for filled or extra holes. A clean shell has only the holes for its lugs, spurs and one holder.
04Wrap: Ask the seller for close photos of each wrap seam. The color and aging should match on every drum, with no glue smears or stray holes at the seam.
05Shells: On arrival, pull the heads and look inside each drum. The plies should be tight and the bearing edges smooth, with no cracks or chips.
06Matching set: Compare the sizes with the catalog outfit for its year, such as 20, 12, 13 and 16 for the 1967 kit. Drums that match in size, lugs and finish make a better buy than a set put together later.
07Packing: Ask the seller to box each drum separately with the heads on and hardware off, or pick it up locally. A four or five-piece kit is bulky, and loose holder parts get lost.

Which one to buy

There's one Londoner for sale, a 1970s kit titled Big R at $1,168 delivered, so its price isn't a market read. The square Big R badge means 1976 or later, which makes this a Londoner Five, Six or Seven with MemriLoc hardware rather than the 1967 Dave Clark kit. Its first photo shows only a tom, a floor tom and a bass drum in a wood-grain finish, so ask how many drums come with it, their sizes, and whether the MemriLoc tom holder is included. Ask for photos inside each shell and of the bearing edges too, since those are the expensive faults on a kit this age.
